Welcome to Behavioural Support Strategies

Behavioural Support Strategies (BSS) is a BILD accredited organisation which provides training across the Social and Health Care Sector in Scotland and more recently Northern Ireland. BSS is managed by VSA.

Throughout Health and Social Care and Education settings the interface between staff and service users can create situations which service users and service providers find challenging and difficult to manage and which in some instances result in challenging and sometimes violent behaviours.

Challenging Behaviour is defined by Emerson as:

"Culturally abnormal behaviour(s) of such an intensity frequency or duration that the physical safety of the person or others is likely to be placed in serious jeopardy, or behaviour that is likely to seriously limit the use of or result in the person being denied access to ordinary community facilities" (Emerson, 1995).

Behavioural Support Strategies offers service providers a humanistic holistic approach in dealing with the problems associated with challenging behaviour.

Who Are We?

whoarewe_imgThe BSS Practice Advisory Committee (PAC) are a group which guide the working practice of the BSS staff, agree policies and procedures, deal with enquiries, and ratifies the decisions of the Instructor Trainer group to support the continued development of the BSS approach.

What Do We Do?

What Can BSS Do For You?

To ensure that BSS offer appropriate support to commissioning organisations, we ask that your organisation agrees and signs up to a working agreement.
